Information for Schools
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends making decisions regarding school dismissal following cases of H1N1 with a mindful balance between the health of the school community and minimizing the disruption and safety risks sometimes associated with school dismissal.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health concludes, based on CDC experience, that the potential benefits of a preemptive school dismissal are often outweighed by the unfortunate consequences, such as students being left home alone, healthcare providers staying home to care for children and the interruption of student education.
